Job Description: Employment-focused non-profit for court-involved citizens currently seeking an attorney licensed in the State of New Jersey to serve as a Case Manager and coordinate legal services for locations in North and Central NJ. The ideal candidate is an attorney who is less interested in directly practicing law, and more interested in helping court-involved citizens restore their lives in a holistic fashion. The candidate is expected to be a Case Manager first, and a lawyer second. This is a full-time position, Monday - Friday, with a full benefits package. Some weekend and night meetings/court appearances will be required.

 

The position reports directly to the Site Director and Executive Director. NJRC operates facilities statewide, and the candidate will be expected, at times, to travel to courts and other appointments around the state. The candidate will be trained in the relevant areas of law, including criminal, municipal court, and related administrative law.

 

Ability to learn and use Salesforce and LEAP database systems is essential; training will be provided.

 

Responsibilities: As a Case Manager, all clients will require non-legal social service navigation/case management, and some will require more advanced legal assistance which must be approved at the Executive Director level. The Case Manager/Attorney will lead and present multiple weekly group sessions to court-involved citizens, provide ongoing case management/outreach to a large caseload, crisis intervention, community outreach and engagement, data entry, data evaluation, and review. Ability to appear in municipal courts and some family courts primarily in the Northern New Jersey area.

 

Required Qualifications: Ability to learn and use the Salesforce and LEAP system is an absolute requirement of this position. License to practice law in the State of New Jersey; knowledge of criminal justice issues or willingness to be taught by our team of lawyers; working knowledge of Microsoft Excel. A strengths-based and trauma-informed approach is a must.

 

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Salesforce; direct experience with court-involved citizens; experience with program and process evaluation. Spanish speakers are strongly encouraged to apply.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIRED:

J.D. and admittance to New Jersey State Bar Association in current good standing
